homemade chicken&dumplings

Updated: Nov 30, 2019

Hey gals and guys! One of our favorite Fall and Winter meals is Chicken & Dumplings. This holiday favorite was passed down from our grandmother. Her love of cooking is something our mother took on, passed down, and now we have that same love of cooking meals for our family and friends.

We were both feeling undeniably exhausted from our week. Sab started her new job in Washington D.C last week and she is excited for what this new opportunity will bring. Bri's week was filled with busting out a paper for school and training her new kitten, Oliver. It was more than evident that we needed some major TLC. While browsing through the grocery store, Sab had the idea of making chicken & dumplings & Bri was down for the challenge!

We thought we'd share our quick and easy recipe with you all. It should take you under 30 minutes to cook!

Ingredients you'll need (for a large pot):

For Dumplings:

4 cups of Bisquick

2-3 cups of whole or 2% milk

1 tablespoon melted butter

pinch of salt

For Soup:

2 large cans of Swanson broth

2 bags of mixed vegetables

2 cups of water

1/2 cup of flour and 1 cup water stirred

2 teaspoons of poultry seasoning

2 teaspoons of thyme

2 teaspoons of parsley

* salt and pepper to your liking

Additional Ingredients:

CHICKEN!!!! We just used a rotisserie chicken

So, now that you have everything we can get to the cooking! *Keep in mind that this will get messy!

STEP ONE: In a large pot - bring chicken broth and water to a boil. While water is boiling, add in seasonings. After about 5 minutes add in vegetables. In a separate bowl, mix your flour and 1 cup of water until it is completely mixed together. Pour this mixture into your soup.

STEP TWO: While your soup is cooking, it's time to make those dumplings! In a large bowl pour in your bisquick, milk, and butter. Mix together until you have a good sticky consistency. Set this aside.

STEP THREE: Depending on what type of chicken you use (we used a pre-made rotisserie chicken) you shred up the meat and drop it into the broth. If you're using chicken breast you can just cut up the meat and drop it into your broth..it'll take a little extra time for the chicken to cook all the way through

STEP FOUR: DROP THOSE DUMPLINGS LIKE IT'S HOT! Time for the messiest part of making chicken & dumplings. Take a tablespoon of your dumpling mixture and place it into the boiling soup. You'll know your dumpling has passed the test when it rises to the top. Drop each dumpling and then let the soup sit for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.

There it is! You've mastered making chicken & dumplings and you're officially a dumpling wiz! Time to enjoy your good eats and indulge in dumpling-goodness!

May Grace Surprise You Kindly,

Sab+Bri
